I Love Academic Writing.

To be honest, that was tough to read. Reading an article about how to write is just so tedious and boring. Especially when we aren’t even the main audience. I’m already not the best reader so this really pushed me to the edge in terms of staying focused and understanding the message behind the paper. I understand that this information is really important and can make me a better writer, which is why I put my head down and did my best to soak it all up.
What I did appreciate was how it was set up. The author jad bold headlines which helped guide me. Them there was quotations to help prove her points. A little like how Chomsky uses quotations as evidence. It was weird to read this because Thonney says things like “undergraduates do...” and I think to myself, wait that's me. But this helps me get some perspective at what I need to do in a college paper, as it’s a lot different from high school. It seems odd that these concepts we need for college writing aren’t apparently taught to us beforehand. So how in the world am I supposed to do well on my first essay in this class? We’ll see hopefully this boring article can help me do so.
The first topic, “Academic writers respond to what others have written about their topic” is very important. Whenever in an argument you need to understand the other side in order to construct a valid argument. If you don’t look at arguments even if they are on the same side as you, you cannot grow a good argument especially in an academic paper.

This is the first academic journal I’ve read. I thought it was interesting because it gave me insight on how to work on my upcoming paper. This being said I don’t look forward to reading another.

  1. Great observation about the need to introduce what you are responding to before throwing out an argument for others to read.

And great image to go along with your post.
